Ukulele & Fiddle Camp: Bring the Jam to Your Camp

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What if my campers have never played uke or fiddle before?

A: Perfect — no experience needed! I bring 30 ukuleles, so every camper has an instrument in their hands on day one. Fiddlers can start with open strings and simple patterns. We learn by ear, just like campfires and jam sessions are meant to happen. Within the first session, everyone is playing together.

Q: How does a multi-age, multi-level camp work?

A: The same way a real jam works — everyone plays a role. Beginners strum one string or play a simple groove. Advanced players take the melody and solos. Parents and kids can play side by side, just like I’ve done at Blue Lake Suzuki Camp. The uke acts as a mini-guitar, and the fiddle provides the melody and shuffle rhythm. It’s inclusive, not intimidating.

Q: What kind of music do you teach?

A: Old-time, bluegrass, and folk — think “Boil ‘Em Cabbage Down,” “Cluck Old Hen,” “Cripple Creek,” “Pretty Little Miss.” All by ear. All in a circle. We learn to start and end tunes together, watch each other, listen between songs, and build a real jam session.

Q: Do you offer day camps, overnight camps, or both?

A: Both! I travel across the Midwest with my 30 ukuleles and can adapt to your camp’s

Q: What does each camper walk away with?

A: The ability to join a real jam. They’ll know how to listen, how to keep a groove, and how to play a handful of tunes by ear. They’ll have the confidence to sit in a circle with other musicians and make music together.

I loved having you this summer.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Jenny and her incredible students. Their dedication, talent, and generosity truly stand out. Not only does she bring out the best in every student, but she also inspires them to give back to the community through volunteering.
It’s rare to find a teacher who creates such a positive, uplifting environment while also encouraging her students to make a difference. If you’re looking for someone who teaches with passion and purpose, this is the place to be.
