Creativity for All

Music Lessons – Piano, Violin, Ukulele & Fiddling

Creativity for All

Are you frustrated with a one-size-fits-all approach to music lessons?
I help students unlock their musical potential through chords, improvisation, and real-world backing tracks. Instead of getting bogged down in rigid traditional drills, you’ll learn how music actually works so you can play the songs you love with confidence, groove, and freedom.

What I Focus On:

  • Chord-Based Learning: Understand how chord progressions work across piano, violin/fiddle, and ukulele.
  • Backing Tracks & Grooves: Play along with rhythm tracks that make practice feel like a live band session.
  • Improvisation & Setlists: Build real setlists and learn to improvise instead of just staring at sheet music.

Does music reading confuse you?

Jenny unlocks the mysteries of musical notation for you. She teaches note reading so you get what you need as you need it. She creates music for you at your level.

If you need tab on the ukulele, it’s there for you. If you need note names inside the note heads, it’s there for you. If you need a band behind you to provide the beat,  Jenny finds the app. She creates videos so you can learn your pieces with multi modalities.

About Jenny

My mission is to help people discover their unique musical voices. As a composer, educator, and sought-after clinician, I bring a deep commitment to both creating and teaching music. I offer private lessons in piano, violin, viola, ukulele, and improvisation from my home studio, where I also accompany and coach chamber music. Additionally, I compose and arrange for string orchestras, sharing a passion for music-making across all levels and backgrounds.

Throughout my career, I’ve been privileged to see students find joy in music, with many pursuing successful careers. Whether guiding beginners or seasoned players, I delight in helping students understand how music works and how they can grow with dedicated effort.

Together with my sister, Rebecca Bogart, I developed the Ukulele for All pedagogy, published by Kjos, and co-authored the Amazon best-selling 21 Songs in 6 Days ukulele series, which has reached over 125,000 readers. I’m also a YouTube ukulele educator and a respected clinician at music educator conferences nationwide, including All-State Conferences in Illinois, Maryland, and Arizona.

Recently retired from leading a successful public school orchestra program in Skokie, IL, my teaching experience spans roles in elementary music and faculty positions at Lake Forest College, the College of Lake County, and the Music Institute of Chicago. I hold a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Illinois, a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Washington, and a teaching certification from Trinity International University. These experiences fuel my dedication to helping students of all ages and abilities experience the joy and depth that music can bring to life.

Boys playing Cello and Violin

The Case Study

Katie started piano with another teacher. She quit after three years. She was struggling to learn the bass clef. And to learn the classical pieces that everyone else was learning. She gave up!

After three lessons with Jenny, she can play three pieces. And she says,

Who knew that music could be so important? And so much fun!

More Student Stories

Chris played viola in his school orchestra program. When he got to high school, he decided he wanted to audition for the more advanced orchestras. He took private lessons and practiced. He played in the top orchestra in high school. And he was able to continue playing in college and as an adult. Music became a life-long passion.

Michael tried band and orchestra instruments in school. Nothing really worked. Then, he tried the ukulele. He loves arranging his own music. And the creativity of learning to transpose, compose and arrange music.
